7 Accessories Every Gentleman Needs

We know, the last thing you want to do is go shopping for little trinkets to add to your outfit, and we’re not saying you have to. But there are certain items every man must have in their closet. Check off this list next time you’re shopping—whether online or in person.

A Watch:

The first one is a good watch. There is no doubt that a wrist watch is an essential timepiece for every man. It is one particular piece of accessory that many men invest in at least for one main reason which is to keep track of time. To the modern gentleman, a wrist watch is more than just for keeping time, he knows that even more it can be used to make a fashion statement. Rather than have several cheap grades and bad looking wrist watches, invest in a nice classy wrist watch. Wearing a good watch can make a subtle statement. A good watch can lead to compliments alongside starting conversations. You want to choose a watch that’s going to fit in with your day to day style. If you’re going to invest in a Rolex but you work on a building site day to day, it’s probably not the best watch to go for. So find a watch that’s going to fit in with your day to day style and then you can wear it time and time again.

A Pocket Square

A pocket square is a good way of adding colour or adding print and even a different fabric to a blazer or to a suit jacket. One classic and timeless accessory which every man needs to have. It’s one of the few menswear essentials which can have a great impact on the entire look if used correctly. It can be worn dressy to finish off a polished suit look or to add interest to your blazer.

Also, the pocket square is a great way to accessorize a casual pair of denim or a jacket with no tie. It’s very easy to incorporate into your style whether you are going for a corporate look, a business casual look or a native wear look.

A Leather Bag

Don’t ignore the importance of a good bag. I’ve seen a lot of men that are looking stylish but they’ve got an ugly rucksack on their back.

Invest in a really well-made leather bag, which is going to look very elegant and it’s also going to be very practical. I’ve got one bag that’s really my go-to, it’s a simple leather holdall which I can get my everyday essential in. As a modern gentleman, you should invest in good quality stylish messenger bags. Stylish messenger bags compliment a great looking attire and you can always carry around when dressed in your dapper outfit. You cant carry a backpack while wearing a suit.

A Pair of Sunglasses

A modern gentleman should invest in quality sunglasses. First and foremost, it provides full protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays. In addition, it is one stylish piece of accessory that can add a touch of style to your look any day. While at it, you should also know that it’s not proper to wear sports sunglasses with formal wear such as a suit.

I recommend that you spend a little bit more money on sunglasses. Invest in quality, don’t just invest in the brand, but investing in quality will mean that you don’t have to keep buying new sunglasses every season. We also recommend that you have a cheaper pair for occasions that you don’t really want to risk losing or breaking them. The impact a good pair of sunglasses can have on your overall look is often underestimated, and it can also hide those tired eyes from the night before.

Stylish Socks

You obviously need to have a few pairs of socks in your wardrobe, but don’t neglect the socks that you’re wearing on your feet. A modern gentleman should avoid wearing a dirty or worn out socks which are a big fashion sin that’s sure to get noticed. Believe me, there’s a good chance your colleagues and date will see your socks, so why not draw their attention to a worthy pair?

I’ve seen a lot of guys that are wearing a really nice suit, but they neglect the socks they’re wearing and opt for wearing white athletic socks. Don’t do it, it isn’t a good look.

Remember it’s all about the finer details, so the socks you wear on your feet play a part in your overall style. Opt for a few pairs, a few that inject colour and a few that are classic and will go with most outfits. A good choice of socks are an easy way to make a subtle statement and express a little bit more personality.

A Wallet

A modern gentleman should invest in good quality wallets. A lot of men use their wallets for many years without replacing it. When it’s getting old or wearing off you should replace at once.

If you’re buying someone a drink and you pull out your fabric Spiderman wallet, it’s not going to go down very well. So invest in a good leather wallet. In addition, if your wallet is creating the bulge in your trouser pocket, get a slimmer wallet or spend some time taking out all those credit cards, debit card, business cards and receipts and only keep one or two cards you use on a weekly basis. Again focus on quality and you’ll be able to keep the same wallet for years to come. Alongside a wallet I’d also recommend getting a cardholder as well. With card being more prominent for transactions now, a cardholder is more slimline but it still looks stylish.

A Tie

A modern gentleman should have a large collection of quality ties that will go with his dress shirts and suits. Avoid cheap ties by all means as they can easily spoil an exquisite look even when paired with an expensive shirt. Even if your day to day style is casual, you still need to own at least one tie. Personally, I hardly wear suits, but I still own a few ties in my wardrobe for formal occasions. We highly recommend investing in classic colours. You can also opt for something that injects some colour to an outfit, and going for a silk can nicely offset other fabrics.
